JOB TITLE:          Chief Transportation Structural Engineer

​

FLSA STATUS:    Exempt

 

SUMMARY:  The Chief Transportation Structural Engineer is responsible for engineering services for the structural design of transportation infrastructure in accordance with the client’s policies and procedures. The position will lead the structural group consisting of a team of 6 existing engineers, coordinate with the other TranSmart Chief Engineers, and support business development that leads to new growth. In addition, this position will be responsible for the quality review of estimating cost, planning, design, and preparation of plans and special provisions of the group.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the design, review, and quality control effort of various transportation structural assignments.

  • Prepare transportation structural analysis, reports, cost estimates, and compile quantity calculations.

  • Lead inspection teams.

  • Mentor structural engineering staff in technical design, modeling, and analyzing structural components.

  • Prepare contract plans, specifications and cost estimates.

  • Actively maintain project scopes, design changes and project budgets

  • Visiting with clients to grow the business

  • Communicate with clients, agencies and internally to provide information and coordinate tasks

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering - Structural emphasis, master’s degree is preferred.

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience designing structural transportation projects.

  • Current Illinois Structural Engineer (SE) license is required. Additional PE preferred.

  • Must be familiar with computer software including Microsoft Office and BlueBeam.

  • Experience with MicroStation.

  • Experience in Phase I and Phase II projects with Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and/or Illinois State Toll Highway Authority.

  • Business development and marketing skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment at the Chicago office. Some field work is required for bridge inspection.

  • Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

  • Vision – See in the normal visual range with or without correction.

  • Hearing – Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
