JOB DESCRIPTION

 

JOB TITLE:             Senior Structural Engineer

 

LOCATION:             Chicago, IL

 

FLSA STATUS:       Exempt

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be responsible for the design of transportation structures, including highway and railroad bridges, retaining walls, and box culverts under the supervision of the Chief Structural Engineer

  • Prepare structural calculations and technical reports

  • Prepare contract plans and specifications

  • Prepare construction cost estimates and performance of structural inspections

  • Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Structural Engineer, master’s degree is preferred

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience with transportation-related structures

  • Current Professional (PE) and Structural (SE) licensure

  • Must be familiar with computer software including Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Experience with Microstation and structural design software (MDX, ConSpan, LPile, etc.) is preferred

  • Experience in Phase I and Phase II projects with Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and/or Illinois State Toll Highway Authority

  • An IDOT Approved NBIS Team Leader is preferred

  • Detail oriented, professional attitude and reliable

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Self-motivated team player with a customer service orientation

  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment at the Chicago office

  • Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information
