TranSmart led the update of the Illinois Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Strategic Plan and System Architecture Update to prioritize the allocation of ITS funding by updating and creating regional ITS architectures throughout the state. This project is conducted in coordination with IDOT District offices, Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), and Regional Planning Commissions (RPC).

Scope of work included:

• Outreach and stakeholder involvement including meetings, webinars, surveys, interviews, workshops, and project website

• Stakeholder needs identification in relation to traffic safety, traffic incident management, interagency coordination, traveler information communications infrastructure, transit, and commercial vehicle operation areas

• Statewide ITS architecture update including recently completed and newly proposed ITS projects and changes in industry standards and practices

• Statewide ITS strategic plan update to assess the continuing relevance of the plan and priority projects in view of the changing technologies and stakeholder needs

• Communications infrastructure inventory and assessment update for sufficiency to support ITS deployments throughout the state

• ITS architecture maintenance plan update to ensure federal compliance

• Regional ITS architectures update development and technical assistance for IDOT districts, regional offices, and MPOs
